Course Description

The Banking and Insurance course introduces students to the foundations of modern banking, financial reforms, and the insurance industry. It covers the origin, role, and functions of banks, the changing face of banking with technology, and the principles and practices of insurance. Students will learn about loans, advances, asset securitization, NPAs, risk management, and regulatory frameworks governing banking and insurance. By blending theoretical knowledge with practical aspects, this course prepares students for careers in finance, banking, and insurance services

  • Evaluate principles of sound lending, types of loans, securitization, and asset management.
  • Understand the meaning and impact of NPAs, Basel norms, insolvency, and recent banking codes.
  • Grasp the fundamentals of insurance, including indemnity, utmost good faith, proximate cause, contribution, and subrogation.
  • Compare different types of insurance policies (life and non-life) and their applications.
  • Study malpractice issues, premium computation, dematerialization of insurance policies, and IRDA’s role in regulation.
